EcoWay was born from our shared concern for the environment and a drive to combat global warming. Noticing the growing impact of travel on carbon emissions, we set out to promote eco-friendly transportation choices in everyday commutes.
This idea took shape at BRICKHack X, a 24-hour hackathon at Rochester Institute of Technology, NY. Collaborating with three talented friends, we built a solution to simplify sustainable travel decisions.

Introduction
Existing Problem
Transportation is a major contributor to carbon emissions and air pollution, negatively impacting both the environment and public health. Existing systems prioritize convenience over sustainability, leading to excessive reliance on fossil fuels.
Key Challenges and Solution at a glance
Key Challenges
Lack of Awareness – Many commuters don’t realize the environmental impact of their travel habits.
Limited Guidance – Existing apps often fail to provide tools or incentives for eco-friendly choices.
Inefficient Travel Modes – Widespread use of unsustainable transport contributes to pollution and congestion.
The Solution
A mobile app that addresses these gaps by making sustainable mobility accessible, actionable, and rewarding.
Key Features
Discover eco-friendly ways to commute
Plan routes using sustainable modes of transport like cycling, walking, or shared rides. The app helps users compare carbon impact for each option
Turn your impact into friendly competition
Earn points for choosing greener commutes and climb the leaderboard. Compete with friends or join community leagues.
Get rewarded for your eco-conscious choices.
Redeem them for rewards like discounts on eco-friendly products, services, and experiences — curated from brands that care about the planet.
This creates a win-win ecosystem where users earn meaningful rewards, and sustainable brands connect with values-aligned consumers.
Research

Research and Discovery
The UX journey of EcoWay began with thorough research and discovery efforts. Our team immersed themselves in understanding the behaviors, needs, and pain points of commuters.
Affinity Mapping
What we found…
Awareness is there, but context is missing
People understand that climate change is a real issue, but they’re unsure how their daily commuting choices contribute to it.
Intentions are green, habits are not
While many want to choose eco-friendly options, convenience often takes priority over sustainability.Motivation drives action
When people are given a compelling reason to care, they’re more likely to change their behavior.

Ideation
Wireframing
With a wealth of research findings in hand, our team embarked on the ideation and prototyping phase.

Brainstorming
Brainstorming sessions sparked creativity as we generated and refined concepts for the EcoWay experience.
Design System
A design system was developed for EcoWay to provide a unified visual and interactive experience. This system also accelerated our design and prototyping phases.

Final Design
Hi-fi Design
We meticulously crafted EcoWay’s user experience to be intuitive, seamless, and visually engaging. Every design choice—from layout and typography to colors and user flows—was thoughtfully considered to enhance usability and captivate users.
